Title: Micro-nano Applications of High Energy Heavy Ion Microbeams

Time: 10:00 am, Friday, November 16, 2018

Venue: Lecture Hall 3016, Gezhi Building

Abstract

The high energy deposition of the heavy-ion beam along its track produces nanoscale structural damage and modification in the solid material, which can be widely used in the preparation of nanopores and micro-nano materials. The HIRFL high-energy microbeam device focuses the GeV high-energy heavy-ion beam on the micron-scale, providing a unique single-ion precision control technique for heavy-ion beam micro-nano applications. Based on the single-nano-channel of PET prepared by HIRFL microbeam precise irradiation technology, we found the reversibly modifiable relationship between ion valence state, nanoporous ion rectification, and surface charge polarity. The nanopores controlled by magnetic field were successfully prepared to apply to DNA sequencing studies.

About Prof. Du Guanghua

Researcher Du Guanghua is director of the Heavy Ion Microbeam Research Group of the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He conducted his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the School of Physics, Peking University School from 1996 to 2003. He gained Ph.D. in GSI and TU-Darmstadt in Germany from 2004 to 2008 and carried out his postdoctoral research in the Department of Physics, Munich University of Technology from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, he was selected by the “Hundred Talents Program - Outstanding Overseas Talents” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and invited home to build the world's most potent GeV high energy heavy ion microbeam experimental platform via the heavy-ion accelerator installed at the Lanzhou branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests include high energy microbeam technology, heavy ion micro-nano applications, DNA damage repair, etc.
